Port Hood and Port Hood Island

These pages contain information about the postal history of the communities of Port Hood Island and Port Hood in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

In his book “Canada Post Offices 1755-1895” published in 1958, Frank Campbell indicates that that the post office in Port Hood Nova Scotia opened in 1829. JJ MacDonald in his book “The Nova Scotia Post. Its Offices, Masters and Marks 1700-1867” published in 1985 indicates that Port Hood was a way office until 1841 when it was upgraded to a full post office and the location received its first cancelling device.

The page Port Hood Postmarks provides a copy of a tabulation of postmarks I have assembled and my philatelic exhibit on the postmarks of Port Hood. Other pages provide an article I have written on the postal history of Port Hood Island, as well as copies of postcards I have collected showing the area.
