In Botswana and Bechuanaland, pre-printed registration labels were imprinted with a large “R” and provided the issuing office name and a serial number as per Universal Postal Union regulations.
The typology and listing of offices using the pre-printed registration labels of Botswana and Bechuanaland presented here is directly based on the work undertaken by John Inglefield-Watson and his colleagues in the Bechuanalands and Botswana Society in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s as described in the Runner Post issues 15, 18 and 29. Other means of denoting the registration of mail in Bechuanaland and Botswana include manuscript markings, handstamps and bar code labels.
